161st birth anniversary of poet Gangadhar Meher was celebrated here on Friday by the Utkal Sammilani central committee by paying floral tributes to his statue at Gangadhar Meher Marg near Kalinga Hospital Square.
Later, Sammilani president Basant Kumar Tripathy presided over a memorial meeting at Nuagaon on the city outskirts to pay tributes to the legendary poet. General secretary Radhanath Praharaj coordinated the meeting.
Among others, Kashinath Rath, Banambar Parida , Girishankar Mishra, Suresh Chandra Chhotray,former president Pitabash Tripathy, Bharat Kumar Jena, Trinath Samantray and Jugal Kishore Nayak recalled the contributions of the poet.
In another function on the day, the Gangadhar Meher Jayanti Committee, the Utkal Sammilani and the Bhubaneswar Bhulia Samaj paid floral tributes to the poet’s statue near the Kalinga Hospital Square.
On the occasion, Jayanti Committee advisor Narendra Kumar Mishra and chairman Sanjeeb Hota, Corporator Achyuta Swain paid their tributes. Utkal Sammilani Mancheswar branch president Dillip Dashsharma presided over the meet.
Among others, Udit Pratap Dehury. Seshadeba Meher, Madhumadhab Jena, Surendra Mishra, Sital Mohanty, Gobinda Subudhi, Sidharth Shankar Gadanayak, Basanti Tripathy, Dushmant Meher, Samir Meher, Umakanta Khatua, Sanjeeb Meher, Akshay Sehthi and Samaranjan Mohanty were present.
