Bokaro Steel City has got the status of the country's first Global Active Partner City which was announced by the International Olympic Association in 2020. Against this background, a total of thirty playgrounds are being developed in Bokaro to promote health and sports. In this episode, the first Playground (Kridangan) being developed in Sector 12C was inaugurated by Amarendu Prakash, Director-in-charge of BSL. On this occasion, Executive Director (P & A) of BSL Sanjay Kumar, CGM Inc (Township) B.S Popli including other officers and residents of Sector 12 were present in large numbers. A jogging, walking track is being built at Kridangan in Sector 12C, along with a volleyball court. A volleyball exhibition match was also organized here after the inauguration of the sports club, in which local players participated. On an average, three such play grounds are being developed in each sector of the township where besides jogging, walking track, facilities for badminton court, basketball court, volleyball court, cricket pitch or any other sport will be provided.
During the interaction with the members of Mohalla Committee present on the occasion, DIC Prakash apprised them of BSL's campaign to promote health and sports, as well as appealed active participation of local residents to take it forward. DIC also sought suggestions from the group of local residents present to improve the playground and promote health and sports. The Global Active City is an international campaign initiated by the Evalio Association, a Switzerland-based organization and supported by the International Olympic Committee, with the basic objective of promoting public health and sports. Several criteria have been set for its certification, which are assessed by international experts. Township Chief B S Popli said Bokaro Steel City, moving towards a Global Active City, is striving to fulfill all the criteria set in the coming months in a time bound manner, in which participation and cooperation of all the citizens is expected and local committee must take ownership of this grounds so that with proper maintenance this grounds can flourish to the next level towards healthy society which Bokaro as first global active city deserves.
