The Crime Branch of Delhi Police has registered an First Information Report (FIR) after Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a complaint against Kolkata Police for allegedly ‘forging and fabricating’ the court orders.
The FIR registered on April 20 against Kolkata Police officials claims that police had tampered with a court order in an attempt to make Joint Director Kapil Raj, provide a voice sample without his consent. In 2021, an audio recording allegedly containing ED officials discussing the coal smuggling case against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee surfaced which prompted Abhishek Banerjee to file an FIR against the ED. The case was heard before a Magistrate’s court in Kolkata which asked Kapil Raj to provide a voice sample with his consent.
Sources said the court order was tampered with in a bid to make Kapil Raj provide a voice sample without his consent whereas the court order had said that his consent was needed. Earlier, Kolkata police had summoned senior ED officials in a matter pertaining to the leaking of the purported audio conversation between ED officials and a businessman.
The ED had approached the Delhi High Court seeking relief in the matter. Summons were issued again after TMC leader Banerjee and his wife were asked to join the ED's probe in New Delhi.
The ED officials had then again approached Delhi High Court for protection. The Crime Branch said that they are investigating the matter.
