Diarrhoea claimed a life in Surjimunda village under the Dubula panchayat of Tarbha block in Subarnapur district on Friday night, while as many as 54 persons were infected in the village.
Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr Biswaranjan Pati said a medical team rushed to Surjimunda village and provided preliminary treatment to many affected persons, including a child. Later, three of them were admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital, Balangir.
Pati informed that necessary precautionary measures including disinfection of the village water sources were taken. Besides, an awareness drive was launched in the village.
The people have been advised not to use water from open source until further orders. In addition, an advisory asked the people to drink only boiled water.
Rectal and water samples from the village have been sent to laboratory for testing. As per latest reports, some infected persons have been admitted at Tarbha CHC and District Headquarters Hospital, Balangir, for treatment.
Collector Aboli Sunil Narvane said the situation was being closely monitored.
