Two distinguished persons, who hail from Rourkela, have brought pride and joy for the city. Dr Prokar Dasgupta, a clinical scientist in the United Kingdom, has been selected to get Padma Shri award, for his service in the field of medicine. Similarly, Chinmaya Patra, Wing Commander of Air Force, will be conferred with Vayusena medal.
Prokar’s father was working in the Rourkela Steel Plant and her mother was teaching in a RSP managed school. They were residing in Sector-6 area here. Prokar had studied in St Paul School from Class I to Class X. He had interest in medical studies and further research in it. He is presently working in United Kingdom as Robotic Surgery specialist.
Prokar was one of the top ten prostate cancer surgeons in the United Kingdom as ranked by the Daily Mail. He is also credited with describing an innovative technique of injecting Botulinum toxin(Botox) with a flexible telescope to target bladder nerves, a method which has been named after him and helped millions of patients worldwide.
Similarly, Patra has been selected to get Bayusena medal. On October 8 this year, in the parade of Bayusena day, he will receive the medal from Chief of Air Staff. Patra is currently working as Wing Commander in MI-16 V5 of Air Force. Chinmaya’s father Naresh Patra was a businessman and his mother Sabita Patra is a housewife. “I am very happy that I have been selected to get medal.
