Tuesday, 01 March 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

Clash between supporters of sitting MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh aka Raja Bhaiya and Samajwadi Party candidate Gulshan Yadav during elections in Kunda constituency of Pratapgarh on Sunday, resulted in registration of cross-cases against both leaders and their supporters.

An FIR was registered against Raja Bhaiya, along with Subhash Singh, Gopal Kesarwani under serious sections including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes Act on the written complaint of Samajwadi Party booth agent Rajesh Pasi at Kunda police station. Pasi accused Raja Bhaiya of making casteist remarks and threatening to kill him.

Along with the three named, 15 unknown people have also been mentioned in the FIR.

After the Pasi's FIR was registered, Raja Bhaiya's followers also lodged a cross-case against Samajwadi Party candidate Gulshan Yadav and his supporters under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Vijay Pratap Singh of Paharpur Sahibapur accused Gulshan Yadav and his supporters of sabotage and assault.

The Kunda police claimed to be making investigation into the charges leveled by both sides.

In the ongoing assembly elections, the SP fielded Gulshan Yadav, a former aide of Raja Bhaiya, against him from Kunda constituency. During polling in Kunda on Sunday, supporters of Gulshan Yadav and Raja Bhaiya came to a head several times. After this, the SP complained to the Election Commission about fake voting in Kunda and also complained about booth capturing in booth numbers 213 and 214.

On his part, Raja Bhaiya denied having anything to do with the alleged attack. "Why would I do something like this and spoil the election? This has been done to garner sympathy," said Raja Bhaiya, who has been winning the Kunda seat in Pratapgarh since 1993.

"Neither there are any chances of a SP government being formed in Uttar Pradesh, nor will Akhilesh Yadav be the chief minister," the Kunda legislator said.

After the face off, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had backed Gulshan Yadav and tweeted in his favour.
