A murder convict escaped from the custody of the police while getting treated at the Acharya Harihar Cancer Hospital in Cuttack on Friday night.
The convict was identified as Muku Santa (50) who was diagnosed with throat cancer.
As per reports, Santa was lodged at the Koraput jail in a murder case and was shifted to Choudwar Circle Jail a year back.
He has been getting treated at the cancer hospital from that time
However, he gave the cops a slip during a treatment session at the hospital.
Choudwar Central Jail Bibhendu Bhuyan said, “Since his (Santa) shift to the Choudwar jail a year ago, he has been regularly visiting the cancer hospital for treatment.”
“He does not know Cuttack city well, so he is probably hiding somewhere nearby. I am sure the police will catch him soon,” Bhuyan added.
An FIR has been registered at the Mangalabag police station in this connection
