The Congress on Tuesday condemned the BJP for backing its candidate Brahmanand Netam, an alleged accused in a molestation case, in the Bhanupratappur assembly by-election in Chhattisgarh.
PCC chief Mohan Markam said in a statement that instead of demanding justice to the victim tribal girl, the Bharatiya Janata Party was demanding votes for a "rapist".
Markam said that when Netam was served a notice by the police, a BJP delegation on Tuesday approached the Jharkhand Police backing the "rapist".
It was ridiculous for the BJP to demand time till December 8 for the physical presence of Netam, Markam said.
The by-election is due on December 5 and the votes will be counted on December 8.
