The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has claimed to have collected the highest property tax revenue during the financial year 2021-22. The civic body has touched a magical figure of Rs 1075 crore in property tax collection during the Financial Year 2021-22, a senior official said.
Commissioner SDMC Gyanesh Bharti said, “This has become possible due to the positive attitude of the department with the taxpayers and extending all possible help and making them understand the need of making payment of the tax before the last date of payment. An amount of Rs 1075 Cr has been collected from 4.60 lakh properties by 31st March 2022.”
Bharti further said apart from collecting highest ever tax in the year 2021-22, the SDMC has also been able to raise Rs 917 crore as transfer duty which is also the all-time highest. “If you club both the figures, it comes to about Rs 2000 crore. In the financial year 2018-19, the SDMC had earned Rs 637.99 crore as transfer duty, in the financial year 2019-20, it earned Rs 751.57 crore and in the year 2020-21, total Rs 563.65 crore was received as transfer duty,” he said. The Commissioner further stated that this became possible due to efforts puton by the relevant departments to make it convenient for the assesses to pay taxes. Nearly 900 camps had been organized in the wards this year, he said.
“The department during new financial year will focus on expanding the ambit of tax on the basis of the results of the survey. The department will concentrate on digitization of property tax related work to enable the sphere of tax net. The department will also determine the tax collection for the next financial year to Rs 1200 cr,” he added.
The property tax department of the SDMC through constant surveys, has brought more properties into the tax net resulting in the amount has been increased The department conducted inspection of commercial properties to evaluate exact amount of tax, served notices to big defaulters for payment of outstanding dues of property tax. The department also pursued matters of outstanding dues of government properties/buildings and followed them properly with the officials concerned to get the due amount, he said.The SDMC had collected 823.61 crore against the target of Rs 1100 crore in the financial year 2019-20. Subsequently, it had collected Rs 943.14 crore in the financial year 2020-21.
