Cold wave returns; Daringbadi has 6.5 deg

After a few days, the cold wave conditions are back in the State with several parts witnessing a dip in the minimum temperature from Thursday night.

Daringbadi in Kandhamal district emerged as the coldest place in the State with mercury plummeting to 6.5 degree Celsius. 

As many as 10 places recorded minimum temperature of 10 degree or below. Phulbani and Keonjhar recorded 8 degree while minimum temperature of 9 degree was recorded in Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh and Bhawanipatna. 

Other places where temperature dropped below 10 degree were Angul 9.6 degree, Koraput and Nayagarh 10 degree each. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded temperatures of 12.1 and 13 degree, respectively, the Regional office of IMD here said.  

The weather office said the cold weather returned to the State due to entry of northwesterly dry and cold winds. The chill weather is likely to continue till January 30, the weather office said. 

“The night temperature is likely to drop by 3 to 4 degree Celsius in the next 48 hours. In view of the cold wave conditions, yellow warning has been issued for six districts. The intensity of cold will be more in the next two days in comparison to today’s weather. Besides, fog will also prevail across the State,” said the IMD.
