IG, Southern Range, Satyabrata Bhoi inaugurated a child-friendly police station in the premises of Mahila police station here on Friday. SP, Brahmapur, Dr Saravana Vivek, Additional SPs, SDPO Town and other officers were present. Bhoi said that whenever a child accompanying a complainant or aggrieved person comes to the police station, this space would bring comfort to both the child and the mother/guardian in a peaceful and friendly ambience. This child-friendly PS includes a resting area, a separate toilet, feeding area, toys and a play area.

Brahmapur: The Vigilance police on Friday conducted simultaneous raids on the properties of Bishnu Charan Sahu, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Baghua Project of Bhanjanagar Irrigation Division on the allegations of possession of disproportionate assets to his known sources of income. During the searches, a three-storied and a one-storied building at Brahmapur, two plots in Brahmapur, bank, postal and insurance deposits of Rs 40 lakh, a Hyundai car (benami) in the name of a contractor, three two-wheelers and cash of Rs 1.38 lakh were detected in the name of Sahu. Details of other investments and assets were being ascertained.

Director of Brahmapur IISER and noted physicist Prof KVR Cherry passed away in New York (USA) following cardiac arrest on Friday. Arya Bhatt Foundation chairman and Green Man of Odisha Dr Sudhir K Rout condoled said Prof Cherry’s death is a great loss not only to the IISER but to the entire science and technology-based education system. The Brahmapur IISER is the sole vision and contribution of Prof Cherry, who had dreamt a lot for further development of the IISER.

OLDER PEOPLE DAY OBSERVED IN ATHMALLIK
Athmallik: The International Older People Day was observed at the block office meeting hall here. Athmallik Sub-Collector Tarani Suna was chief guest. Three senior voters of above 100 years were honoured by the administration. After the meeting, health checkup and a cultural programme were organised for senior citizens.
