Although no lumpy skin disease in cattle has been reported in Chhattisgarh, the Got-Pask vaccination is underway on a war footing across the state as a precaution.
The state’s Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in-charge Dr. S. Shartiya said 3.67 lakh animals have been vaccinated so far, against a target of 8.20 lakh animals.
When the disease was reported from neighbouring states, Chhattisgarh decided to take all kinds of preventive measures to save its livestock. Chhattisgarh has 18 districts bordering other states.
To prevent entry of sick animals from these states, checkposts were set up in 85 border villages. Cattle fairs were banned in these villages.
The Lumpy Skin Disease spreads among cattle, especially cows and buffaloes. The main carriers are mosquitoes, flies and mites.
Animal suffering from the disease show symptoms of moderate fever for 2-3 days, after which round lumps start appearing on their skin.
