BRAJRAJNAGAR: 3-DAY LEAVE FOR VOTERS RESIDING OUTSIDE

Bhubaneswar: With the preparations in full swing for the Brajrajnagar Assembly by-election on May 31, voters residing outside the constituency can avail a three-day leave to exercise their franchise. “While there will be one day holiday for voters on polling day, the voters who are staying outside Brajrajnagar can take three days’ leave, i.e., a day before election, on election day and after election day,” Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sushil Kumar Lohani told reporters here on Friday.

 

COLLEGES, VARSITIES TO REMAIN CLOSED ON SABITRI

Bhubaneswar: All colleges and universities across the State will remain closed on the occasion of Sabitri Amabasya on May 30. In this regard, Higher Education Principal Secretary Saswat Mishra has written to Principals and Vice-Chancellors of both Government and private degree colleges and universities. However, the Government has curtailed the summer vacation at all educational institutions this year. The vacation at higher educational institutions will be from June 1 to 16 for a period of only 16 days. The decision has been taken to complete all academic activities in time and cover the syllabus that could not be completed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

 

ECoR OBSERVES ANTI-TERRORISM DAY  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) observed the Anti Terrorism Day at the Rail Sadan here and its divisional headquarters on Friday by taking a pledge for nonviolence and tolerance. Additional General Manager (in-Charge) Sarad Kumar Srivastav administered the oath to officials to oppose terrorism, violence and to promote peace and social harmony to fight against the forces disrupting and threatening human lives and values. Principal Chief Personnel Officer/Administration LVSS Patrudu conducted the ceremony.

 

B’PUR PRESIDENCY COLLEGE HOSTS RAETBM  (Pix)

Bhubaneswar: The Institute of Research and Journals (IRAJ) organised an international conference on ‘Recent Advancement in Engineering, Technology and Business Management’ (RAETBM-2022) here recently. The conference was co-hosted by the Berhampur Presidency College. Chief guest Prof Satya Ranjan Pattnaik highlighted recent innovations in the field of engineering and technology. He stressing on AI and robotics research. Diptimayee Dash of the Presidency College spoke on the recent achievements of  the college and its students.

Paralakhemundi: Malkangiri district Special Development Council Planning Coordinator of Laxminarayan Hota has got doctorate degree from the Berhampur University for his paper "Watershed Management Programme towards Sustainable Development of Koraput Tribals-A Study of Koraput District, Odisha".  He did his thesis under Jatni College Reader in Economics Dr Anup Kumar Mahanty. He is the son of late Ramesh Chandra and Prabasini Hota of Paralakhemundi.

 

MYSTERY SHROUDS YOUTH’S DEATH IN GAJAPATI

Paralakhemundi: A body of a youth was recovered from near a forest near Kaithadhepa village under the R Udayagiri police station in Gajapati district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Kabala Baliyarsingh of  Machagara village. His family members found Kabala’s body and informed the police. Kabala had gone for a feast and later went to a bar with his brothers. As Kabala’s body bore some injury marks it is suspected that he was murdered. The deceased’s brothers and another person were detained and interrogated by police in connection with the case. Police are investigating to ascertain the exact cause of his death.

 

SENIOR BARGARH SCRIBE RANA PASSES AWAY  (Pix)

Bargarh: A senior journalist of Bargarh district, Dambarudhar Rana, passed away at his residence in Sohela on Thursday. For the past few months, he had been bedridden due to old age-related illness.

GOAT THIEVES’ GANG BUSTED IN DHARMASALA; 5 HELD

Jajpur: The Dharamsala police on Thursday busted a gang involved in goat theft and arrested five persons. Police said the thieves had adopted a unique practice. They first stole the goats from one place, kept those in another place and bargained with traders from other places to get inflated prices. Police could catch them after a case was lodged by one Birkishore Behera of Nilkanthpur village complaining that four of his goats kept in a shed were stolen. The arrested were identified as Nalua Nayak of Jaleswarpur and Dilip Malik of Odang along with three of their associates.
