The Unit-II Market Building here was on Sunday closed for an indefinite period following a dispute between makeshift shopkeepers and owners of permanent shops.
The decision regarding the closure was taken by the members of the traders’ association.
A scuffle erupted between the two groups as several street vendors attempted to set up stalls in the market while the traders’ association members opposed it. Street vendors allegedly assaulted association members.
As tension ran high, the Capital police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control.
Notably, the street vendors had been evicted from the market by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) last Sunday.
