A 12-hour Bargarh Bandh protesting the death of a Class I student of the Vikash School and police action against guardians who protested and gheraoed the school received good response on Saturday.
On July 20, a student of Class-I, Aditya Raj Sahu, had fallen down inside the school premises and sustained head injury. Immediately he had been rushed to hospital since Vikash has its own hospital in Bargarh. But he had died after two days.
On July 24, the local guardians and common people had gheraoed the school protesting death of the student and carelessness of the school authorities. But police lodged cases against nine guardians who took part in the agitation.
And to protest the highhandedness of the school authorities, and one- sided police action, the Bargarh Nagarik Committee, District Bar Association, common people and members of all political parties observed the bandh demanding proper investigation into the death, withdrawal of cases against guardians, action against police who supported school management and also adequate compensation to the deceased’s family.
“The bandh was peaceful and no untoward incident happened anywhere,” informed police.
