In the greed of making quick money, a man buried his 23-year-old nephew with the hope of getting donations by exploiting the religious sentiments of the local people during Navratri by claiming that the youth was a saint and took `samadhi’.
Interestingly, three associates of the man also helped him in his plan but they all ran out of their luck when the local police arrested them for making an attempt to kill the youth.
The incident took place at Tajpur village in the Bangarmau area of Unnao district.
Reports said that the police rescued Shubham Goswami, a devout and later arrested his uncle Munna Lal Pandey along with three others, identified as Prabhashankar Shukla, Satish Chandra and Shivkesh Dixit. The action was taken on the eve of the start of Navratri festival last Sunday evening.
Goswami, during questioning by police, alleged that his uncle had told him that he would be given 'bhoo samadhi', a funeral usually reserved for saints, in which they are buried and not cremated. The grave then becomes a shrine regularly visited by followers and disciples of the saint.
Pandey had allegedly tried to bury Goswami in order to attract people, in the hope that they would start offering money, flowers and prasad.
Goswami accused his uncle and the three others of an attempt to kill him.
A case was registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
