A contractual worker was killed and another injured in a mishap at the Captive Power Plant (CPP)-1 of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Amar Kumar Panda of Subaspali, Sector-5 in the city. Sushil Kumar Deogram, who was critically injured, was admitted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH).
Tthe mishap took place at around 11.30 am when the duo was cleaning a pipeline. An explosion occurred in the pipeline, following which a piece of iron pipe fell on them. They were rescued in critical conditions and rushed to the IGH, where Amar succumbed to his injuries.
Expressing resentment over the mishap, several labour unions demanded adequate compensation for the family of the deceased and a job for one of his family members.
The RSP authorities started an investigation into the incident.
