Ahead of the G-20 summit slated next year, lakhs of tulip plants will be planted by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in the area under its jurisdiction.
“In the Year 2021, a total of 62 thousand 800 bulbs of tulip flower bulbs were planted, while this year their number has increased to 1 lakh 26 thousand in which tulips of yellow, white, orange, purple, blue, pink and red colors are being planted,” said Satish Upadhyay, Vice Chairman, NDMC, while planting bulbs of Tulip flower at Shanti Path, Chanakyapuri.
Upadhyay said that tremendous preparations are going on across the country for the G20 Summit. In such a situation, work is being done day and night by all the concerned departments of the council.
NDMC VC said that the challenge for us with tulip bulbs is that it requires 15 days of chilling temperature minimum of five degrees temperature to break the dormant and germinate it. In view of this challenge, the council had bought pre-treated and pre-programmed flowers which are easily avoided in irregular conditions, said Upadhyay.
Informing about the other flowers which will planted by the civic body apart from tulip, he said that other flower varieties also include Pitunia, Salvia, Senaneria, Dimafortica, Antirinum, Papi, Verbina, Dianathus Holyhok, Nasturitium, Byla, Kelumdla, Deci, Metrokeria, Coriopsis, Lineum, etc.
“The horticulture department is working on the concept of "NDMC Age City of Flowers" to enhance the beautification of the area and apart from this, "Flower Festival" and "Tulip Festival" will also be organized in Central Park,” he stated.“To ensure the people's participation, Selfie points will be set up in all areas comes under its jurisdiction which includes various places like Connaught Place, Ranjit Singh Bridge, Barakhamba Road, Talkatora Garden, 11 Idols, Mandi House Goal, RML Goal, Windsor Place Goal C Hexagon, Sunheri Bagh Round, Tilak Marg, etc,” said Upadhyay.
Upadhyay said that the NDMC is the first civic body in India to plant such precious flowers. No other civic body has put them in public domain. “The response to these precious flowers is excellent from every walk of life.
Seeing these beautiful flowers not only gives us a positive mindset but also brings happiness while passing from there,” Upadhyay added.
