Friday, 30 September 2022 | PNS | Ranchi

Ranchi Police is on alert mode with upcoming Durga Puja and appealed people not to pay attention to rumours. The City police has also issued a whatsapp number urging people to make call in case of any anti-social activities during puja. Ranchi SSP Kishore Kaushal has issued the fresh directive after a youth was arrested from Sankat Mochan Mandir at Main road for vandalizing Lord Hanuman idol. The control room's WhatsApp number 6299423768 has been issued by the police.

Moreover, residents can also inform police by dialing 100 and also calling 112. People can also inform Ranchi Police through Twitter and Facebook. The Twitter account of Ranchi Police is @ranchipolice and the Facebook page is Ranchi police.

To handle the social media of Ranchi Police, the duty of five policemen in three consecutive shifts has been put in the control room. These policemen are reading the information coming on WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook and passing it on to their senior officers. SSP Kishor Kaushal has assured the people that Ranchi Police will take immediate action on their every information.

Tension prevailed in the area after an idol of Lord Hanuman was allegedly vandalised by some anti-social elements in Ranchi on Wednesday. The idol of the Hindu deity was kept inside a Hanuman temple located on the main road of Ranchi. However, the police were successful as the youth was arrested on Wednesday morning.

Today the youth was sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail after he was produced before the court of chief judicial magistrate Mithilesh Kumar Singh, and the court took him in judicial custody. The judicial remand is till October 13. The name is Rameez Ahmad, a resident of New Tiwari Tank Road under Hindpiri police station area.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours on Wednesday, caused tension in the area as a few months’ ago violence had erupted in Ranchi followed by police firing on an unruly procession protesting suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s controversial statement involving Prophet Mohammed.

In June this year, following the protests over Nupur Sharma's controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad, a curfew was imposed in violence-hit areas in Ranchi.
