The Odisha Parents’ Federation (OPF) Jagatsinghpur unit has urged candidates contesting the panchayat polls to implement the Right to Education (RTE) Act in its letter and spirit.
The Act stipulates that all children are given equal opportunities for quality education besides 25-per cent reservation of seats for poor and weaker sections children for admission in private run English medium schools free of cost. Ironically the guidelines have been flouted by schools and educational institutions and we demand strict implementation of the same, said OPF State chairman Basudev Bhatt.
Moreover, since the Odisha GP elections are underway, the nominees should promise to implement RTE Act so as to promote qualitative education in Panchayat level. “We have approached political parties and candidates across the State to ensure the RTE Act is implemented properly after they are elected to power,” Bhatta added.
Among others, OPF vice-chairman Prasanna Bisei, secretary Ashok Kumar Paikaray, Jagatsinghgpur OPF coordinator Suresh Chandra Swain and district secretary Shaktidhar Mishra were present.
