The Government Medical College and Hospital Action Committee, which had spearheaded agitations demanding establishment of a medical college in Baleswar, has again braced up for another round of movement to press a demand mainly for filling up vacancies in all posts including doctors and paramedics.
Members of the committee are mobilising public opinion by organising meetings in different blocks of the district. Ultimately, they would stage a one-day dharna in Bhubaneswar and submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, said committee working president Niranjan Parida.
The demands include posting of specialists in the departments of cardiology, nephrology and neurology in the hospital besides filling of vacant posts.
Further, the committee demands full-scale service by the AIIMS of Balasore. It said that although the satellite unit of AIIMS Bhubaneswar is working in Baleswar, yet specialists from AIIMS Bhubaneswar come to Baleswar only for two days only for OPD service. As a result, patients are not getting proper service and the purpose of AIIMS in Baleswar is defeated.
The committee also demands establishment of an Ayush hospital and a college for nursing and pharmacists in Baleswar.
