The birth anniversary of Bhima Bhoi, the legendary visionary, saint and poet, was observed here on Monday in a solemn and serene atmosphere.
It was organised jointly by the district's premier literary organization Mayurbhanj Sahitya Parishad and Baripada's service-oriented socio cultural association Sadbhavana Samiti.
The speakers lamented the fact that the State Government is yet to take a decision on making Bhima Bhoi Jayanti a State-level event notwithstanding the reputation of the poet and his invaluable contribution to Odia literature.
The programme was presided over by Parishad president Padmanabh Sahu, while senior journalist Dr Vijay Agarwal and senior social activist and Sadbhavana Samiti founder-secretary 'Bhanjabandhu' Purna handra Bugudei graced the meeting as special guests.
Others who spoke on the occasion included literary personalities Nilakanth Mishra, Brundavan Dash, Bhagvat Panda, Ajit Kabat, Sanjay Kumar Chowdhry, Sandip Kumar Chand, Sasidhar Biswal, Manoj Dalbehera, Dr Aditya Panda, Jayant Dwari, Ajit Panigrahi, Kaivalya Mohapatra, Gopal Sao, Basanti lata Mohapatra and Bharati Beborta.
