The Chhattisgarh government is going to build a memorial for martyred soldiers and security personnel of Chhattisgarh on the lines of the Amar Jawan Jyoti in New Delhi.
In a major announcement on Saturday, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said: “In honour of the martyrs of Chhattisgarh, a memorial named ‘Chhattisgarh Amar Jawan Jyoti’ will be constructed at the campus of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force’s 4th Battalion in Mana locality in Raipur.
“The flame at the memorial will glow continuously,” he said in a statement.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will perform `Bhoomipoojan’ for the memorial during his visit to the state on February 3, a statement from Baghel said.
The Chief Minister said the removal of the Amar Jawan Jyoti in Delhi had pained him.
A society “which does not respect its martyrs and preserve the memories of their sacrifices gets destroyed”, the release quoted Baghel as saying.
“We will honour the martyrdom of the bravehearts of the police as well as paramilitary forces and Army belonging to Chhattisgarh who sacrificed their lives for the nation in any part of the country as well as the bravehearts of the country who sacrificed their lives in the state through this memorial,” the Chief Minister said.
The Amar Jawan Jyoti flame at India Gate was merged with the National War Memorial (NWM).
