AAP slams LG for infringing on Delhi Govt’s admin power

Thursday, 30 June 2022 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday heavily came down on the recently appointed Lieutenant Governor (L-G), V K Saxena for unduly infringing in Delhi’s administrative processes.

The AAP reaction came after Saxena stayed the already approved appointments of public prosecutors and standing counsels of the Delhi Government.

Addressing a press conference at party headquarters, the AAP legislator from Kalkaji, Atishi said that L-G has no right to stay the appointment of Delhi's Public Prosecutor-Standing Council that was approved by the Delhi High Court.

“From the day the L-G took oath, he is trying to sabotage and destabilize the constitutional setup of the city. He has raised questions on a file related to the appointment of public prosecutors and standing counsels of the government. The recruitment process to appoint public prosecutors, standing counsels, and additional standing counsels began in 2021,” said Atishi adding that it was approved by the then L-G, Anil Baijal June 24, 2021.

“The new LG had stalled the recruitment process which was approved by the previous LG and 40 judges of the Delhi High Court. It has become abundantly clear that the LG has a problem with the Delhi Government, but what’s more surprising is that he also has an issue with the previous LG,” she alleged.

“This is because he has stalled the process approved by the previous LG, conveying his dissatisfaction with the process. If appointing the lawyers is delayed further, it will negatively affect the people of Delhi,” said Atishi adding that this is unconstitutional.

“I am again requesting the L-G to look after his functions, which include law and order arrangements and providing a safe and secure environment to the women in national Capital. He should not try to overturn the decision of the elected government because the people of Delhi will have to suffer because of your action,” said Atishi.
