Despite PM’s clarion call to save daughters, the BJP Govts are hobnobbing with rapists for electoral gains
The slogan given by the prime minister "beti bachao, beti padhao" (save daughters, educate daughters) has assumed a new meaning. It has been redefined by the people in his party. Indeed there is a need to save daughters today as the rapists and murderers indulging in heinous crimes are having a field day. Recently Bilkis Bano rapists and murderers of her three-year daughter and family were released from jail for "good behavior" garlanded and given public honour in Gujarat. Now in another incident,the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim convicted for rape has been let off on parole in the BJP ruled Haryana. He is serving for raping two of his disciples in his Rewari ashram. As if the parole was not enough he is giving sermons on good deeds to one and all and his satsangs (online) are being attended by the Mayor and other local BJP leaders. It is no coincident that his 40-day parole from Sunaria jail in Haryana's Rohtak district coincides with the panchayat elections in Haryana. The ruling BJP party would like to do well in hustings in rural Haryana where Ram Rahim has clout.
SAD leader Charanjit Singh Brar has vehemently cricitised BJP-led Haryana government for generosity shown to Gurmeet Ram Rahim and being granted frequent parole when some elections are around the corner. Brar quipped, "Ram Rahim comes out of jail every 2 months for a picnic." The BJP government has ignored all appeals to end his parole. The chief of Delhi Commission of Women, Swati Maliwal appealed to the Haryana govt to withdraw the parole granted to Gurmeet Ram Rahim. "Why is such a dangerous person being given parole again and again?" she said on Twitter but that did not cut ice with the Haryana government which is fixated on winning the Panchayat elections. The BJP leaders are hiding behind the courts, hiding the fact that it is the state which objects to such a demand in court. The BJP leaders defends Govt saying that the parole granted to Ram Rahim was in accordance with the jail manual. Meanwhile, Ram Rahim is comfortably living in his ashram in Baghpat and enjoying his parole. Several local BJP leaders are attending his satsang religiously and meeting him. The message to to the girls of Haryana and for that matter rest of the country is - "Daughters please work hard to save yourself, and study harder to know the bitter truth that we in the government have elections to win."
