Wednesday, 22 December 2021 | Pioneer News Service | Kolkata

At least three persons were killed and 44 people were injured when a fire broke out at the Indian Oil Corporation refinery plant at Haldia, police said.

Out of the 44 injured 37 were said to have been referred to better hospitals in Kolkata, police said adding out of the 37 people the condition of seven were critical as all of them had sustained burn injuries.

A IOC statement later said that the accident occurred when shutdown work was in progress. “The primary cause seems to be a flash fire leading to burn injuries to 44 persons … and three persons have unfortunately succumbed to their injuries,” IOC sources said adding however that the fire had been put out and normalcy restored.
