An eight-month pregnant Odisha woman reportedly died after consuming pills to abort foetus as she feared complications post delivery.
The tragedy took place in Chennai, where Kumari Kanjakam (23) had migrated from Odisha with her husband Pratap Ulaka and niece Geetha Kanjaka. According to police sources, Kumari had recently came to Odisha along with her niece to attend funeral of a woman who died due to delivery-related complications.
As she was pregnant, she returned to Chennai in a disturbed mind on September 20. She had a fall in bathroom, complained of stomach ache, following which she was hospitalised. Doctors found that Kumari had a serious infection in her womb. With consent of her family, a surgery was conducted to remove her uterus. But she did not recover from illness and died.
