The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday announced establishment of Rajendra University with effect from September 1, 2020 under the Odisha Universities Act, 1989, thereby recognising the oldest college of western Odisha, Rajendra College, as Rajendra University.
The university now can award degrees by conducting courses through its own departments and through its affiliated colleges. The name of the university has been included in the list of those established as per Section 2(f) of the UGC Act 1956 maintained by the UGC on its website.
Union Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also tweeted on Friday regarding the UGC notification. He hoped that by this the aspirations of western Odisha students would be fulfilled.
