Two killed by elephants in Chhattisgarh

Two persons were killed in separate elephant attacks in the forests of Jashpur and Raigarh districts in Chhattisgarh, a Forest Department officer said on Tuesday.

Mohini Bai (55) was trampled by an elephant in the Kunkuri forest range of Jashpur on Tuesday morning. Dharamsingh Rathiya (30) died similarly in the Dharamjaigarh forest division of Raigarh on Monday night, said Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Anup Kumar.

Mohini, a resident of Dholchua village, had gone to gather mushrooms from a forest when she was attacked.

Rathiya, of Gersa village, had gone to answer nature's call on the outskirts of the village when a tusker trampled him.

An instant relief of Rs 25,000 each has been given to the kin of the deceased. The remaining sum will be disbursed after the completion of necessary formalities, the officer said.
