Chhattisgarh Police on Saturday seized 54.55 kg of cannabis valued at Rs 5.50 lakhs and arrested two persons in Kabirdham district who were transporting it from Odisha to Madhya Pradesh.
Kabirdham Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha told The Pioneer over telephone that the arrested men were Irfan Khan (24) and Mithun Kawadia (22), Both hail from Madhya Pradesh.
The action was taken based on a tip that the contraband was being taken to Madhya Pradesh from Odisha via the Kabirdham National Highway NH-30, Sinha said.
Police intercepted the truck in the Chilpi police station limits.
The cannabis was packed in five jute bags and hidden inside a truck cabin along with steel pipes. The truck, steel pipes and two mobile phones were also seized.
