The Delhi Police has arrested two men for allegedly cheating a woman by selling her fire extinguisher instead of an oxygen cylinder in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as Ashutosh (19) and Ayush (22), both residents of Vikaspuri.
According to Santosh Kumar Meena, the Deputy Commissioner of Police(DCP), Dwarka district, a complainant Geeta Arora, resident of Shishram Park, Bindapur, alleged that two persons sold her one fire extinguisher in place of oxygen cylinder.
“She told police that her relative was suffering from COVID-19 and he was having breathing problem and low oxygen level. She also tried to admit him in hospital, but could not arrange a bed in any hospital,” said the DCP.
“Later, she tried to arrange oxygen cylinder and came in contact with two persons, who cheated her as they delivered fire extinguisher instead of oxygen cylinder. When she contacted them and asked to return the money, they stopped receiving her phone calls,” said the DCP.
“Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Uttam Nagar police station. The police team gathered the information about the criminals through informer and call details record,” said the DCP.
“On the basis of specific inputs, a joint team of special staff and Uttam Nagar police station arrested the accused persons on Thursday. During interrogation, the accused persons confessed about the crime. Five fire extinguisher cylinders were recovered from their possession,” the DCP added.
