Police in Chhattisgarh’s Gariaband district are to launch a Tourist Police on July 31 from Ghatarani-Jatmai to provide security to tourists, it was announced on Friday.
Gariaband Superintendent of Police Parul Mathur told The Pioneer that most areas in the district are famous for tourism but sometimes untoward incidents occur.
The new force will be initially launched in four spots: Ghatarani, Jatmai, Rajiv Lochan temple and the Chingarapagar waterfall.
Five policemen and policewomen will be posted every Saturday and Sunday at these places to ensure safety and convenience to the public, the officer added.
The Tourist Police will wear yellow T-shirts for easy identification. They will have a medical kit, rope, torch, umbrella and other safety equipment, Mathur said. Gariband district is located 90 km from Raipur. The Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, Sikaser Dam and Bhooteshwarnath, Ghatarani, Jatmai and Rajiv Lochan temples are the main tourist spots.
