During the ongoing pandemic Ranchi University community-based radio show- Radio Khanchi 90.4 FM along with classes has been conducting various programmes to create awareness on important issues like health and nutrition. One such show being aired is called ‘Poshan ki Potli’.
The programme which started in November 2020 especially focuses on pregnant women, lactating and mothers with toddlers as well as teenage girls who could be prone to anemia in urban and rural areas. It also includes interactive sessions with experts like nutritionists, dieticians, doctors and gynecologists and is broadcasted at 11 am and 8 pm on every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
“Radio Khanchi 90.4 FM has been working on creating awareness on various social issues locally. The team of Radio Khanchi is not only hard working but are doing many more such projects for the welfare of the general public. Besides academic activities, we are also involving our radio in social awareness programmes,” said Ranchi University Vice Chancellor Ramesh Kumar Pandey.
The programme has been sponsored by UNICEF while it is being executed by Radio Khanchi in collaboration with an NGO called SMART.
As many as 10 episodes have been aired on various topics including seasonal food, child nutrition, breast feeding, nutrition demand for pregnant women, diseases and cures of disorders related to malnutrition and naturopathy among others.
The programme also lays emphasis on the overall nutritional demand of a woman right from the time of conceiving to nine months of pregnancy and the first three years of the mother and child.
As a part of an outreach programme under Poshan ki Potli, members of Radio Khanchi also visited about 12 Anganwadi centres in Ranchi and interacted with the locals. During this campaign, mothers were given tips on how nutritious food can be made interesting. Pregnant women were urged to go for regular check- ups and young mothers were asked to monitor their child’ weight.
“During the coronavirus pandemic nutrition has been a major cause of concern for everyone especially for pregnant women and small children. Keeping this in mind Poshan ki Potli has been created for local awareness,” said Director Radio Khanchi Anand Kumar Thakur.
As a part of this campaign narrow casting at various Anganwadi centres was also conducted in an attempt to communicate both on- air and off- air. Seeing the positive response received, the programme will be continued throughout 2021,” said Director Radio Khanchi Anand Kumar Thakur.
