An 18-month-old child died in the absence of medical facilities at Kandsaar primitive Birhor Tanda (village) in Katkamsandi block of the district, alleged villagers. The child was suffering from cold, cough and fever. After the death of the child the BDO and CO of Katkamsandi block visited the Birhor Tanda.
The father of 18 months old child Raj Kumar Birhor said that his son Ranjeet Birhor was suffering from cold and fever. He further said that he had gone to the block hospital but no one took care of his child. The child slept on Wednesday night but early in the morning he did not wake up.
Raj Kumar further said that there is no medical or vaccination camp organized by the health department. He said that they did not get the free food for the last two months. Due to non-availability of food they are not having the food properly, he said.
Katkamsandi BDO Renu Kumari, Circle officer Anil Kumar with Mukhiya Ram Kumar reached the Tanda and took stock of the situation. On the order of BDO and CO the medical officer of block Dr Subhash Chandra Sharma reached there with a medical team and checked the health of every birhor in the tanda. The medical team also distributed free medicines to the birhors.
On the issue of food grains and other items the BDO talked to the marketing officer. The birhor said that they are facing a food crisis due to lockdown in the State.
When birhor child death information was given to agriculture minister of State Badal, the minister met with the minister Rameshwar Oraon in his residential office and requested him to supply the food grains and other free facilities to all the Birhor families.
