Keeping in view of rapid increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, Chandigarh Administration on Tuesday announced night curfew in the Union Territory. The curfew hours have been kept between 10 pm and 5 am, during which time only essential services will be allowed to function.
UT Administrator and Governor of Punjab VP Singh Badnore ordered this while presiding over a War Room meeting with the senior UT administrative officers here.
Badnore expressed serious concern about the rising number of Covid-19 cases and asked Police to ensure strict implementation of night curfew. Market Associations were asked to ensure that the staff engaged by them are tested and vaccinated.
The Administrator also appealed to the citizens to take advantage of the facility being provided by the Health Department to all residents above 45 years of age to get themselves vaccinated. “Measures like weekend curfew, closure of Apni Mandis and other crowded places will be considered, unless the people abide by the guidelines regarding covid appropriate behavior,” he said in a statement.
No gatherings will be allowed during curfew hours, and all restaurants must shut down by 10 pm. The decision will be reviewed when the situation improves, the statement stated.
