District coordinator of Odisha Mo Paribar Kaliprasad Mishra on Saturday celebrated his 49th birthday in a unique way by organising a blood donation camp.
As many as 49 units of blood were collected from the camp in collaboration with the district blood bank. Mishra decided to organise the camp keeping in view the shortage of blood during corona pandemic. Apart from Mishra, Mo Paribar co-ordinator Hiranya Kumar Panda also joined hands.
“The supply of blood is essential for carrying out life-saving surgeries as well as for patients suffering from diseases such as Thalassemia.
The district has more than 120 Thalassemia patients, who depend on the blood bank of DHH for frequent transfusion. About 600 units of blood are required per month to cater to the need of patients. Besides, patients of cancer, anaemia, pregnant women and accident patients too require blood during emergency. Since the blood bank of DHH has fallen short of blood, we felt need to arrange the camp,” said Mishra.
