Chhattisgarh School Education Minister Dr Premsai Singh Tekam on Friday suspended the Bemetara District Education Officer (DEO), who was accused of buying science lab equipment and furniture in violation of government norms. The issue was raised on the last day of the Monsoon session of the Assembly by Congress member Ashish Kumar Chhabra. The MLA alleged that quality was not taken care of and that payment for the furniture was released even before it was supplied to the schools. The Minister first denied any complaint had been lodged or any irregularities were alleged. Chhabra countered that he himself had lodged a complaint and that the officials were misleading the House.BJP and JCC-J members supported Chhabra, saying a ruling member was raising corruption charges. Brijmohan Agrawal (BJP) said such a situation prevailed across the state and demanded a Joint Parliamentary Probe.Amid noisy scenes, the Minister promised a probe. He announced suspension of the DEO and attached him with the Deputy Director Office, Durg.
