The Khandagiri police have arrested a person on the charge of duping a medico of a huge amount of money on the pretext of helping him get admission for post-graduation course in a medical college in Bhubaneswar.
The accused was identified as Debasish Mekherjee, who had allegedly cheated Asish Patnaik, a medical practitioner and a resident of Shatabdi Nagar in Bhubaneswar, of Rs 60 lakh for facilitating his admission into PG course in a private medical college in 2018.
The accused had taken the money from Asish in three instalments.
After the victim realised that Debasish was a fraud, he asked him to refund his money. When the accused did not pay him back the total amount, Asish approached the Khandagiri police.
The police arrested the accused on Wednesday night and produced him before a local court on Thursday. Police source said the accused is involved in several fraud cases.
