Kapu community demands OBC tag

The representatives of Kapu community, which comprises Telgu speaking residents in Gajapati district will give memorandum to the State Government seeking Other Backward Class (OBC) status.

This was clarified in a Press meeting here in presence of local leader Tirupati Panigrahi and some members of the community. They said that though the demand is legitimate and quite old, yet the Government has not paid heed to them.

50% of population of Paralakhemundi constituency belongs to the Telugu spoken community. While they are given OBC status in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States, in Odisha they are yet to get it.

While in Odisha 80 lakh belong to the Telugu speaking community, 30% of them belong to the Kapu community Among others S Balraju, S Lungaraju, D Rajeshkumar, B Dhananjayrao,N Viraraju, K Apparao, Ch. Eswarrao, N Maleswarrao, K Tajeswarrao and PBalraju were present.
