Ashok Juneja (IPS, 1989) was on Thursday named the Director General of Police (DGP) of Chhattisgarh, replacing incumbent DM Awasthi (IPS, 1986).

A Home (Police) Department order said Juneja will retain the post of Special Director, General Naxal Operation/State Intelligence Bureau and of Special Director General, Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and Special Task Force (STF), Raipur.

Awasthi, who has been DGP since December 2018, has been appointed the Director General, State Police Academy, Raipur, and will also retain the post of Chairman, Police Housing Corporation, Raipur, an official statement said.

Now the post of Director General, State Police Academy, has been declared equivalent to the Director General post (Level 17) in terms of pay scale.

The appointment of Juneja comes two days after Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed displeasure over the "slow" progress of work during a review of the Home department.
