Vice-president of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Jayant Chaudhary was unanimously appointed president during a virtual meeting of the party’s national executive council on Tuesday. The post had been vacant since Jayant’s father and RLD chief Chuadhary Ajeet Singh’s death due to Covid-1 on May 6 last.
At the virtual meeting on Tuesday, senior RLD leaders expressed grief over the demise of Chaudhary Ajeet Singh and paid tributes to the late leader. Later, RLD secretary general Trilok Tyagi proposed the name of Jayant Chaudhary for the post of RLD president which was seconded by national general secretary Munshiram Pal. Thereafter, Jayant was unanimously elected the president of RLD.
He expressed gratitude to the RLD national executive council members and said that he had been given a big responsibility by the senior leaders which he would try diligently to shoulder and live up to their expectations with the blessings of Chaudhary Ajeet Singh and Chaudhary Charan Singh. He also vowed to carry on with the farmers’ fight.
Jayant expressed concern over untamable Corona which was fast gripping the villages and said that both the Centre and UP government had failed to prevent the pandemic as yet. He stressed on the need of door-to–door vaccination and said that the government should rope in ASHA and Anganwadi workers in the vaccination drive so that it could be sped up.
The new RLD president said that residents in rural areas of UP were facing a lot of problems in the lack of technical knowledge for operating the CoWIN App. “We should think of some easy method on getting people registered for vaccines as all the people in villages do not have smartphones,” he said.
Jayant also extended his party’s support to the six-month long farmers’ agitation against the new Farm laws and called upon party workers and leaders to take part in the nation-wide dharna to be organised on May 26 and demanded the government to find an amicable solution by striking a dialogue with the farmers. He also exhorted party workers and leaders to start preparing for the UP Assembly election in 2022 and said that the recent Panchayat election results were very satisfactory for the RLD. He also expressed grief over the damage done by the cyclone in Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.
On Jayant’s appointment to the top party post, RLD national secretary Anil Dubey congratulated him and said that Jayantji was sure to bring about a big change in the political stream in near future. “Jayant has been the voice of farmers, youths and unemployed and is an ardent supporter of development of villages. The RLD will become more powerful under his leadership,” Dubey said.
