The Insurance Ombudsman Day was celebrated on Thursday by Office of the Insurance Ombudsman, Bhubaneswar, to create awareness about the speedy mechanism for redressal of insurance-related complaints free of cost.
Insurance Ombudsman Suresh Chandra Panda addressed the insurers and media representatives highlighting the importance of the day and the role of Insurance Ombudsman in ameliorating the grievances of the insured.
He also mentioned about the performances of this office in disposing of insurance claims in various sectors such as life, health and general insurance. In the last financial year, out of the 1,001 cases, 964 were disposed of and all this within the due time of 90 days. This year, out of total 743 cases, 641 have been disposed of so far.
Other officials of the office, including Secretaries NM Behera and S Murmu were present. The office has a plan to conduct camps in the districts of Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, Keonjhar and Jajpur for yearly disposal of cases.
