Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the historical and ancient fair of Gwalior, which is being organised for 105 years, will begin from February 15, 2021. A concession will be provided on registration tax of vehicles purchased at the fair. Chouhan was addressing the Udghoshana programme organised by the Gwalior Trade Fair Authority at Kala Rangmanch, Mela Ground on Sunday.
Chouhan said that Gwalior’s trade fair has enjoyed a distinctive place since 1905. The fair was started by Kailashvasi Madhavrao Scindia First. To boost the identity of the fair even further, the event will be made even grander after consultation with everyone. Chouhan said that work will be done on the roadmap of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Atmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh and Atmanirbhar Gwalior. He said that the district administration has been instructed to prepare a plan for the continuous use of fair premises to boost industry and trade in Gwalior.
The Chief Minister said that Corona is under control as a result of the steps taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get rid of the corona and precautions taken by the people. India has set new records in the world in terms of vaccines.
Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that history is a witness that whenever there is a discussion on the holding of and expansion of fairs in the society, then the ancient and historical fair of Gwalior is mentioned first. He said that the historic and ancient fair of Gwalior was always held at its appointed time, but due to the global pandemic Covid-19, it has been delayed this year. He said that people wait eagerly throughout the year for the Gwalior Fair to be held. While the fair enhances the trade and business of the people, the needy also get employment for the year. Tomar said that as the Gwalior Trade Fair has adequate infrastructure, the fair can be organised for 8 months of the year by expanding it.
Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia said that it is a historic moment not only for Gwalior but for the whole of Madhya Pradesh that this historical and ancient fair, which has been taking place for more than 100 years, was started by the ancestors of the Scindia family. He said that this fair was started as an animal fair, which was gradually expanded by his revered father Late Madhavrao Scindia and it became famous as a trade fair. The fair enjoys a distinct image and identity all over the country.
Scindia said that earlier there was a trade of 100 crores through registration of vehicles, whereas now there will be a business of 800 crores as the exemption in registration tax of vehicles has been provided and the state government will earn revenue.
Revenue and Transport Minister Govind Singh Rajput said that Gwalior Fair has been a revolutionary fair in the field of automobile. Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Science and Technology, Omprakash Saklecha and MP Vivek Narayan Shejwalkar also addressed the programme.
