Girls once again outperformed the boys with the pass percentage of 97.34 percent as compared to 95.74 percent pass percentage of their male counterparts in the results for Class XII announced by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) on Friday.
Of the total 2,92,663 eligible students, 2,82,349 passed with a pass percentage of 96.48 percent as compared to the previous year’s 90.98 percent and 86.41 percent in 2019.
A total of 1,34,672 girls had appeared in the exams, out of which, 1,32,691 cleared the exams, while a total of 1,57,951 boys had appeared and out of these, 1,51,258 passed out.
The results will be uploaded on PSEB official website — www.pseb.ac.in — and also www.indiaresults.com after 10 am on Saturday.
PSEB, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, could not conduct the exams, and followed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) pattern to evaluate scores. The result was calculated on the basis of the 30:30:40 formula, considering the marks in Classes X, XI, and XII.
While 30 percent weightage was given to the results of Classes X and XI, 40 percent weightage was given to the Class XII-unit test, mid-term or pre-board exams.
As per the information shared by the Board, the pass percentage of 94.87 percent was recorded in the commerce stream, 97.10 percent in humanities, while it’s 94 percent in science and 98.51 percent in the vocational stream.
Students of meritorious schools performed better with a pass percentage of 99.74 percent, while the government school pass percentage was 98.05 percent, aided schools 96.71 percent, associated schools 93.25 percent, and affiliated and Adarsh schools 93.21 percent. The Board chairman Dr Yograj said that the pass percentage of urban schools and rural schools was similar with the former recording 96.63 percent and the latter 96.37 percent.
In the urban area, 12,2,594 students had appeared in the exams and out of these, 1,18,461 cleared the exam; while in rural area, a total of 1,70,049 students had appeared and out of these, 1,63,888 cleared the exams.
Among the districts, Rupnagar (Ropar) district topped the State by securing a pass percentage of 99.57 percent followed by Patiala at 99.08 percent and Muktsar at 99.06 percent.
The Board chairman made it clear that in case, any child was not satisfied with the result, he or she can write to the school authorities concerned who will refer the matter to the Board with the school ID within 15 days.
