Former State BJP chief dies of Covid

Former BJP MP and former State BJP president Laxman Gilua lost his battle against Covid-19 on Thursday.

He was 57 years old and was undergoing treatment at Tata Motors Hospital in Jamshedpur after being infected with corona. He took his last breath in the wee hours at 2.10 am. He was admitted at the hospital last week.

An official of the hospital informed that his health continued to deteriorate every passing day. He was also administered Remdesivir on April 23 when his health deteriorated, but every effort went in vain. His health did not improve and he died during treatment.

Senior BJP leaders including state spokesperson Kunal Sarangi rushed to the hospital as the news spread.

Emotions ran high when his dead body was taken to his native village Janta at Chakradharpur block of West Singhbhum. His last rites were performed as per Covid protocols. Gilua’s family members participated in the rituals wearing PPE kits.   

Born on December 20, 1964, Gilua was the key leader of BJP in Kolhan division. He became the BJP block president of Chakradharpur in 1990. He won the assembly elections in undivided Bihar in 1995 from Chakradharpur and became a member of the Bihar Assembly. Thereafter, he was also elected to the Lok Sabha in 1999 from Singhbhum. In 2014 too he was elected MP from the same seat.

BJP State president and MP Deepak Prakash expressed deep condolences and said, “ I am heartbroken by the passing away of former state president and former MP. It is an irreparable loss for the party. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed soul and to the grieving family and supporters to bear this grief.

He said that the parliamentary tenure of Laxman Giluwa could not be forgotten. He had set many records while being an MP. He said that while he was the state president, he worked to bring the party to the masses. Laxman Gilua’s role was istrumental in the party expansion programme.

BJP leader Babulal Marandi said that the death of former MP and former state president is a personal loss for him. This loss is an irreparable loss to the entire state.

Secretary Dharampal Singh said that the death of former state president, former MP, simple personality Laxman Gilua, is an irreparable loss for the party. “I pray to

God to grant peace to the departed soul and grant strength to the grieving family to bear this sorrow,”

Union Minister Arjun Munda expressed grief over the demise of the former President of the State BJP and said that his death has caused irreparable loss to the party.
