A three-year old boy was killed and his parents and seven-year old sister sustained injuries when a tree being chopped down by the district administration fell on their bike at Jodipua Chhak in Jajpur town on Saturday.
They were returning from Ma Biraja temple to their village Adia under Agarapada police station in Bhadrak district when the mishap occurred.
While the four persons were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital at Jajpur, the doctors declared the child, identified as Rahul Bindhani, to be dead. Others Sunanda Bindhani, his wife Sasmita Bindhani and their seven-year old daughter Jasmine who were injured were under treatment and their conditions are stable.
Soon after the incident, the locals blocked the main road and demanded proper compensation and stern action against the persons who are responsible for the incident. Senior police officials rushed to the spot to pacify the agitators and maintain law and order, said Additional Superintendent of Police of Jajpur Narayan Barik.
