Sunday, 31 October 2021 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Yogendra Sagar, who is the father of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Bisauli, Kushagra Sagar, has been sentenced to life term for kidnapping and raping a girl student in 2008.

The MP-MLA Special Judge Akhilesh Kumar pronounced life term to Yogendra Sagar with a fine of Rs 30,000 or three months’ additional jail.

The former legislator was immediately taken in custody and sent to jail.

Former MLA Yogendra Sagar was on bail granted by the Supreme Court even as two other accused in the same case, Tejendra Sagar and Neeraj Sharma, had served life term earlier.

The victim, a BA student, was kidnapped on April 23, 2008 in the Bilsi police station area when she had gone to get notes from her friend.

Later, the girl was recovered after several days and she alleged that she was kept at the residence of the legislator in Lucknow and Delhi. She also alleged that she was gang-raped by the MLA and his two accomplices for several days.

Presently, Yogendra Sagar has joined BJP while his son Kushagra is BJP MLA from Bisauli assembly constituency.
