The Cyclone Gulab made its impact felt in the State on Wednesday as several parts of the State received light to medium showers. In Ranchi there were thick clouds covering the sky, with morning and evening showers. The MET department had made a forecast that most places in Jharkhand in the next two days will receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers.
As per MET department, there will be light to moderate thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely at isolated places over the State on September 30. Also gusty wind speed reaching 30-40kmph gusting to 50 kmph is very likely to prevail over North Eastern, Central and South Eastern parts (in the districts of Jamtara, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ranchi Ramgarh, Saraikela-Kharsawan) of Jharkhand.
Similarly, on October 1 too there will be light to moderate thunderstorms accompanied with lightning likely at isolated places over Jharkhand. Also there will be heavy rain at isolated places over Western and adjoining Central parts (in the districts of Gumla, Lohardaga, Latehar, Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribag & Latehar) of Jharkhand.
Head of Ranchi Met Centre, Abhishek Anand said an alert of heavy rain has been issued in Jharkhand for next two days due to formation of another low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
“A cyclonic circulation has built up over east central Bay of Bengal. Under its influence a low pressure area is going to form over the Bay of Bengal. This will result in heavy showers in Jharkhand," said Anand. As per MET department the low cyclonic pressure which has formed at Bay of Bengal is to cross Jharkhand by Wednesday night. There will be heavy to moderate rainfall in districts which border the Bay of Bengal.
The MET department has also issued possible impacts due to rainfall such as water logging, flooding in low lying areas. There will be localized flooding of roads and closure of underpasses in some localities. Community services like electricity, water etc may be affected due to cyclonic rainfall, coupled with power outage in some localities.
As the rainfall will be accompanied with gusty wind, the MET department has warned that vulnerable structures may damage, partial/major damage to Kutcha houses/roads/walls and huts.
