On one hand where there is scarcity of beds in the hospitals of the State Capital, COVID care coaches made by Indian Railways at Hatia Yard are lying useless. With the recent spurt of Corona infected cases in the State South Eastern Railway (SER) has prepared COVID care coaches so that the patients could get treatment. 

The SER had prepared a COVID care coach with capacity of 60 beds of COVID positive patients and a similar coach with capacity of 30 beds still available for patients at Hatia railway stations. SER authorities informed that when the District Administration will need it the SER will provide for the treatment of the patients, he added.

SER had constructed 60 COVID care coaches for Corona patients last year with the help of Ranchi Rail Division is still available with a capacity of 30 coaches.  SER officials say that the District Administration can use the train with an isolation bed of 30 coaches whenever it wants. Around 270 patients will be admitted in these coaches.

Significantly, the Railways had prepared a 60-coach isolation train last year and around 540 patients could be admitted in these 60 coaches. But last year the District Administration did not use the isolation coach. The isolation coaches are still standing at Hatia.

Currently there are only 30 coaches left in this train. These coaches have beds as well as other facilities necessary for the patient. Right now there is a fight for beds in hospitals in Ranchi. It is being said that beds in hospitals have run out and all beds are full. Due to lack of beds, patients are looking towards other cities. Even in such conditions the District Administration is unable to use these trains.

In view of the increasing outbreak of Corona infection in the State, preparations have also been done in the Railway Hospital at Hatia. A 10-bed isolation ward has been prepared at the Railway Hospital at Hatia. In any kind of emergency, this ward will be used for railway employees. Ranchi Rail Division, DRM Neeraj Ambasta said that there are nine doctors in Ranchi Railway Hospital right now. Other doctors will also be recruited soon by SER so that in the treatment of Corona infected patients could not be affected, he added.

Significantly, a 50-bed isolation ward was built last year in the Rail Hospital at Hatia in Ranchi division. But so far this year an isolation ward of 10 beds has been made. Railway officials say that gradually the number of beds in the ward will be increased.
