Congress holds sit-in against rising inflation

Sunday, 28 February 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

Following the instruction of All India Congress Committee (AICC), Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) held a sit-in near Raj Bhavan in the State Capital on the issue of rising prices of petroleum products along with other daily use items here on Saturday. JPCC Chief cum Finance Minister, Dr Rameshwar Oraon presided over the protest and a large number of the party office bearers participated in the protest.

Speaking on the occasion Oraon said that the State Assembly elections in five states are going to be held soon including West Bengal, Assam, Tamilnadu, Kerala and Puducherry. In such a situation, the price of petroleum products can be decreased by the Central Government for two-three months to get the political mileage in the elections, he added.

“There is no truth in the statement of the Petroleum Minister that the prices are increasing due to increased consumption of petrol and diesel in winter. His statement has come in the wake of the Assembly elections to be held in the coming days in five states which are very crucial for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” said Oraon.

Attacking the Central Government, the party’s State Chief said that there is public anger against rising inflation in the whole Country. The BJP did not have to suffer losses in the elections, so the Union Minister has given this statement only for political gains. It is sure that after the election, the price will increase again, he added.

It may be mentioned here that Rameshwar Oraon is the Finance Minister in the coalition government in the State.

Oraon said that it is the responsibility of the Central Government to control the price of petrol and diesel. “At present, the anti-people government is sitting blindly to help its businessmen friends. The reality is that the poorest of the poor use petrol-diesel and cooking gas. The economy of the entire Country is affected by the price of petrol and diesel,” he added.

The State Finance Minister also said that an increase in the price of fuels also increases the price of other essential commodities. “In the Congress regime, arrangements were made to control inflation while increasing the income of the people but Narendra Modi’s led Central Government is constantly taking decisions against farmers, labourers and the poor public. Against this, a movement is being run by the party in the entire State,” he added.
